Girl ~
I like clothes hung out on the line,
Pure cotton sheets that crack and whip
in the north wind,
Their sun bleached starkness
Flagging against an azure sky.
I like to watch the seeds
From a cattail, riding on the breeze,
And glimmering in the light of dusk.
I like the soft ears of rabbits...
the soft eyes of does,
And the dainty little footprints of raccoons.
I like the royal purple beauty
of Canadian Thistles,
dotting the meadows
and fireflies on a summer night...
those little lanterns of wonder,
rivaling the stars.
I like chicken feathers,
warm weather,
and the soul song of the meadowlark.
But most of all ...
I like the fathoms of quiet stillness
when God's earth beckons me
to come close,
And I listen to its mighty roar.
